It's a Recreation Celebration!

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department marks “July is National Park and Recreation Month” with a variety of activities throughout the community.

Athens-Clarke County residents know their parks and recreation facilities provide places to get active, explore nature, celebrate the arts, or connect with fellow community members, but what they may not know is that their parks and recreation also contribute to improved health outcomes, higher property values and environmental sustainability.

The Leisure Services Department joins communities across the country in celebrating the 30th anniversary of “July is National Park and Recreation Month."

A complete list of activities, including registration and fee information, is available at www.athensclarkecounty.com/parkmonth or by calling 706-613-3800.

What Do You Think?

The Department will host a public input session regarding Southeast Clarke Park’s World of Wonder (WOW) play space on Tuesday, June 30 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM at Whit Davis Elementary School at 1450 Whit Davis Road.

Staff is seeking public input on the design for the future location of the WOW play space.  Citizens are encouraged to attend and provide input on the vision for this project. Children are encouraged to attend and will be participating in a concurrent visioning process.

The new play space will be constructed using funds from the 2011 SPLOST program’s Park Facilities Improvements project. The original WOW play space, built in 2004 by volunteers using recycled lumber products, is at the end of its useful life.
