Clayton Street Stormwater & Streetscape Improvements Underway

The Pre-Dig phase for the Clayton Street Improvements started Monday, June 18 when ACC Transportation & Public Works Department's Streets & Drainage crews started digging trenches for the future stormwater system. The goal of the Pre-Dig is to resolve any issues such as conflicts with other underground items earlier in the process so that the actual installation of the system goes quicker. Crews have now finished their first month of work. The actual installation of the stormwater infrastructure will begin in January 2019, and streetscape installation is scheduled to begin in April 2019.


Work started near N. Lumpkin Street and will move block-by-block to Thomas Street until November 2018. Crews are working one side of a block at a time, moving from the south side to the north side. Construction will take place Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except for any holidays), and it will take place in a rolling work zone of up to approximately 200' at a time and require lane closures and parking space closures of 10-15 spaces at a time.

Preliminary Watershed Management Studies Available for Review


ACC’s Watershed Management Program includes assessing conditions in Athens’ watersheds and developing plans to protect, restore, and improve them. ACC Stormwater recently finished 9 preliminary Watershed Management Plans (WMPs) that are part of a larger set of plans corresponding with different watersheds within ACC. After extensive field work, sampling, and modeling, these WMPs outline the current conditions of the watershed and aim to address stream health as a whole. The newer plans also identify projects that will help restore sections of the watershed or mitigate certain pollutant sources.

Seeking Your Feedback


ACC Stormwater has hired Stantec Consulting to conduct a comprehensive review of its Stormwater Utility Fee. This review will look at level and extent of services along with alternative funding strategies, rate structure, credit systems, and economic development considerations.
 
As a part of the review, we are seeking feedback on the utility fee and stormwater services. If you are a property owner in Athens who pays a stormwater utility fee, we ask that you complete our short online survey. The survey is 10 questions long and should not take more than ten minutes. Anyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a prize!
