Explore the meaning of the summer stars and get familiar with constellations seen below the equator. Sandy Creek Nature Center will host a "Journey through the Stars "Summer Under the Stars" planetarium program on Saturday, July 21 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  

No children under 5, please. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in and take a seat in the planetarium.

The fee is $2 for ACC residents and $3 for non-residents. Online registration is required and underway.

Kitty Yoga

Purrfectly Zen!


Meet us at the Memorial Park Recreation Hall on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for some yoga and fun with adoptable kittens from Circle of Friends Animal Society, a local licensed foster home based rescue group!

A small donation of $5 or kitty items (cat food, litter, toys, etc.) is requested. There is also a limited supply of yoga mats to rent for $2.

All proceeds go to the Circle of Friends Animal Society cat programs.

ACT Show

On Stage...

Athens Creative Theatre presents "Mother Goosed (A Mystery)" on Friday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Morton Theatre.

Joe, a cop in the Fairy Tale precinct, Nursery Rhyme Division, investigates the disappearance of Mother Goose. As Joe interrogates a wild assortment of nursery rhyme characters, including Peter Peter, Mother Hubbard, Little Bo Peep, a handful of Marys and many others, the truth about the missing Mother Goose comes out when her true identity is finally revealed with much surprise and delight!
This special production is the end of camp performance by ACT's Summer Theatre Performance Program which takes participants through the production process from audition to performance.

Fall Registration

Last Month of Camp!

The Leisure Services Department announces its fall programs for 2018, a diverse selection highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events are planned for adults and children.
Online program registration for Athens-Clarke County residents will open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4.  Non-residents may register online starting Monday, August 6 at noon.  Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at  Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express Card, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card. 

Individuals who already have an online account and received or renewed a Leisure Services Department scholarship since July 1, 2018, may use the scholarship when registering online.  
Individuals with expired scholarships and new scholarship applicants must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office to apply for a scholarship or to renew an expired one, this must be done at least five business days prior to registering for a program. 

Scholarships may not be applied for online.  Information regarding scholarship program changes, including required documentation, is available at

Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register using the computer labs at East Athens Community Center at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.

End of Summer!

Lay Park will host Last Friday of Summer on Friday, August 3 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. 

Everyone is invited for an evening of family fun and back to school giveaways.  There will be book bags for the children in attendance as well as face painting, games, and bounce houses. The first 100 individuals will receive a slice of pizza.  Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Registered participants must be present to receive a book bag.  Register online today!
