Get Ready for Fall!


The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department’s Fall 2015 Program and Events Guide is available online.

The guide lists a variety of activities planned for September - November 2015 including programs featuring art, dance, recreation, nature education, sports, theatre, and more.

Fall registration begins Saturday, August 1 from 9:00 a.m. – noon for Athens-Clarke County residents and non-residents may register beginning Wednesday, August 5 during regular hours of operation. Registration takes place at the facility where the program occurs and continues until programs are full.  

Scholarships are available for qualifying Athens-Clarke County residents.  Individuals must apply for a scholarship prior to the day of program registration.  Scholarship information is available at www.athensclarkecounty.com/scholarship .

And the Band Played on...


The Sounds of Summer Concert Series concludes Thursday, July 23 with Sons of Sailors playing lakeside at Sandy Creek Park.

The concert takes place at the beach at the community’s largest park.  The opening acts takes the stage at 6:00 p.m. followed by Sons of Sailors at 7:00 p.m.

The fee is $5 per vehicle starting at 5:00 p.m., which includes park admission.  Food vendors will be on site including Biggum's BBQ, Holy Crepes, Lil Ice Cream Dude, and Your Pie.  Blankets and chairs are encouraged.

Sponsors include Athens-Banner Herald, CoxMedia, Flagpole Magazine, and Zaxby’s. This concert series is presented as part of the Leisure Services Department’s month long celebration of “July is National Park and Recreation Month.”

Get in the Game!

The Leisure Services Department offers a wide range of youth sports this fall including gymnastics, Sportstimesoccer, and tennis. 
Registration begins August 1 for ACC residents.  Non-residents may register beginning Wednesday, August 5.

Adults need to be active, too!  Adult Tennis, Adult Tumbling, Pickleball, and Softball are all available.

You Gotta Have Art!


Unleash your inner artist this fall with a class at Lyndon House Arts Center.  A diverse selection of classes are available for adults, children, and teens.

The selection includes a new "Skateboard Art Workshop;" "Books That Turn Twist, Pop and Drop,"  and a new "Printmaking" class for adults.

Rule Britannia, Again!


The British are coming, again!  The Leisure Services Department has partnered with Challenger Sports for another week of the popular British Soccer Summer Camp.  The camp is led by coaches from Great Britain.  Participants will receive instruction on dribbling, passing, shooting and other soccer skills. 

Programs are available August 3-7 and are for ages 2-14. Sessions  take place in the morning as well as in the evening from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Fees range from $70-$170 per participant.  Registration is available online, only.
