MLK Day of Service Project Site Applications Now Open

On behalf of the Athens MLK Day of Service Steering Committee, ACC Stormwater invites government agencies, public/private nonprofit organizations, health care agencies, or civic groups to apply to host a volunteer project for the 2019 MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 21. Last year, 17 different project sites hosted over 750 volunteers.
Potential project sites will be divided into two categories based on size. Central sites (50 or more volunteers) will have access to full volunteer registration support and tool reservations through Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful, and will be advertised in all publicity. Affiliate sites (less than 50 volunteers) will have the chance to participate in the kick-off event, as well as receive volunteer sign-up support and recognition for their projects through the MLK Day of Service webpage and social media.
If you would like a copy of the site application, please email or visit the MLK Day webpage. If you are not interested in hosting a volunteer site for the Day of Service but would like to make a financial contribution to the event, please email We hope you will join us in making your 2019 MLK Jr. Holiday a day ON, not a day off!

Celebrate Geography on GIS Day

National GIS Day falls on Wednesday, November 14 this year. GIS (or Geographic Information System) is an integral part of stormwater management, from creating maps of stormwater infrastructure and polluted streams, to tracking the placement of green infrastructure practices. Geography is embedded into almost everything we do.

In honor of this national celebration, ACC Stormwater is encouraging everyone to participate in our official Geocache GeoTrail, “Water Logged.” The geocache trail, which will bring participants up close and personal with several good examples of stormwater management and green infrastructure, launched on November 14 of 2015. Interested participants should visit and search for “Water Logged.” Anyone who completes the trail and logs all 5 caches is eligible to receive a prize! All you need is a cell phone with GPS and internet access.
