The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will present two “Owl Prowls” in January.

“Owl Prowl” at Sandy Creek Nature Center  is planned for Friday, January 18 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.   This program is for ages 13 and older.  For more information on this session, please call 706-613-3615.

“Owl Prowl” at Memorial Park is planned on Friday, January 25 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. 
This program is for families, ages 4 years and older.  For more information on this session, please call 706-613-3580.

Participants will learn about these feathered nocturnal animals and search for owls that inhabit the woods during an evening hike.  Everyone is encouraged to bring a flashlight.  The program fee is $2 for Athens-Clarke County residents and $3 for non-Athens-Clarke County residents. 


"Visions of MLK Community Celebration"

The Lyndon House Arts Center will host the annual "Visions of MLK Community Celebration" on Saturday, January 19 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Visions of MLK is in its 12th year and is hosted by hip-hop producer and community activist, Montu Miller.

This year’s theme is "Peaceful Resistance: Letter(s) From a Birmingham Jail." Performances include spoken word poetry, dance, and the art exhibit.

Tiny Tales

Storytime in the Park!

Tiny Tales on Tuesdays at Memorial Park continues this winter.

Participants will have story time and participate in a craft. This activity is open to children ages 18 months - 6 years.
The program takes place from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. The fee for each session is $3 for ACC residents and $4 for non-county residents.

Parents/chaperones are admitted free of charge and must accompany children.           Online registration is required and is underway.

Under the Moon...

Explore the North Oconee Greenway by moonlight! Come along on our guided Full Moon Hike.  Enjoy activities that enhance the beauty and magic of our Greenway at night. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight or headlamp. 

This special hike is scheduled for Monday, January 21 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.  Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Juried Exhibition

It Could be a Masterpiece...

The Lyndon House Arts Center announces the artwork submission days and online entry forms for the 44th Juried Exhibition with guest juror Lauren Haynes, Curator of Contemporary Art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.  Entry days are Thursday, January 24 from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday, January 25 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 

Athens area artists are welcome to bring one to three works to the Lyndon House Arts Center for consideration by Ms. Haynes to be included in this anchor facility wide show.  

An online formguidelines, and labels are now available. Artists are encouraged to complete the entry form prior to arriving with their artworks on the submission days.  Artists can complete this online form anytime time up to the submission deadline on Friday, January 25 at 4:00 p.m. 

Those who do not have access to a computer, or have not completed an online entry form prior to dropping their artworks off, may complete the form upon arrival at the Lyndon House.   IPad and Laptop stations will be available with staff to assist.  

All artists will be required to complete artwork labels and pay the entry fee of $25.00 during the submission days.  The entry fee is a fixed price whether one submits one, two, or three artworks.
