The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host Out of School programs on Monday, April 15 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. These programs serve children ages 6-12, and take place when schools in the Clarke County School District are not in session. Many of the programs are already full, but the following ones still have availability: 

“Adventures in Fitness” is set for Lay Park.  Participants will compete in fitness themed games and scavenger hunts.  Attendees will also learn about benefits of healthy eating and how to create yummy treats to prepare for their families. “Recess: School’s Out “ is scheduled at Rocksprings Park. This will be an action packed day filled with all the things kids love about recess. Participants will hit "rewind" for some old school recess challenges and throw in some new ideas too. For more information, please call 706-613-3602.

The fee for each program is $15 for ACC residents and $22.50 for non-residents. All campers must bring a sack lunch.  Tennis shoes and clothing appropriate for physical activity are recommended.  Space is limited. Online registration is required.

East Athens Community Center will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 a.m.- noon.  Children will have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with the Easter Bunny, as well as participate in arts & crafts, activities, and games. Lay Park will host the Easter Egg Scramble on Saturday, April 13 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. This special holiday program is for ages 1-10.  The event includes inflatables, an egg hunt, and refreshments.   Children must bring their own baskets.  The program is free of charge and registration is not required.  Additionally, Lay Park will host an Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt
 planned for Friday, April 19 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.  This program is for ages 11-14. The fee is $2 for ACC residents and $3 for non-residents.  This is an egg hunt with a twist. Participants will work together in teams to solve clues, take photos, and complete tasks along the way as they race against other participants to find all of the eggs around Lay Park.   For more information, please call 706-613-3596.
Spring Fling

Save the Date!

The community is invited to enjoy a spring day in the Classic City at the Spring Fling, a family-friendly spring celebration event on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Southeast Clarke Park.  This event is free of charge.

Activities begin at 11:00 a.m. and includes live music with both local and world-acclaimed artists including White Rabbit Collective, Strawberry Flats, Timi Conley & the Wonderland Rangers, Michael Tolcher, and The Randall Bramblett Band.

Other activities include a beer garden, business expo hosted by East Athens Business Leader Association, food trucks, play zone for children, skate park demonstrations, and yoga in the park. The entire event takes place on the Lexington Road side of the park.  The event concludes at 6:00 p.m.

This event is sponsored by The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Synovus, Cox Radio, East Athens Business Leaders Association, and Flagpole Magazine.

Summer Camp

Summer Camp Slots Are Still Available

The Leisure Services Department continues online registration for its summer camps. The Department offers the most diverse selection of award-winning summer camps in Northeast Georgia, including traditional day camps and mini camps which highlight art, nature education, sports, and theatre.  Opportunities are available for children from ages 3 -16.  Space is limited.

Scholarships are available for qualifying ACC residents.  Parents who wish to apply for a scholarship must do so in person at a Leisure Services Department facility office.  Applicants must apply for a scholarship at least five business days prior to registering for a program or camp.  Applicants must have a valid email address.  More information, including required documentation, is available at

The Leisure Services Department is now hiring for approximately 120 summer positions. 
Applications are currently being accepted for camp staff, lifeguards, and pool clerks.  Lifeguards, with the required certification, can be as young as 15 years of age.
