Trestle

Public Input Sessions Planned

On November 7, 2017, Athens-Clarke County citizens approved the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) 2018 Program Referendum, which included the Firefly Trail Project (Project #06). This project includes a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Trail Creek, now referred to as the Firefly Bridge over Trail Creek.

The trail connection and creek crossing will be designed for an area within Dudley Park, where a remnant of an old wooden railroad trestle remains along the abandoned railroad corridor.  The structure is commonly referred to as the Trail Creek Trestle or the Murmur Trestle.

The Firefly Bridge over Trail Creek project will include a structural evaluation of the railroad trestle to investigate its viability as part of the trail system. Based on the findings of the structural assessment, the Firefly Bridge over Trail Creek design team will produce several alternative options for a future Firefly Trail connection and crossing of Trail Creek. These options will be developed within a community engagement process that will include listening sessions, public meetings, online surveys, and a public open house.

Please join the design team and share your thoughts on the proposed design concepts. Firefly Bridge May public input sessions will take place Thursday, May 2 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Bobby Snipes Water Resources Center located at 780 Barber St and Saturday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the ACC Planning Department Auditorium located at 120 W. Dougherty St.
