Roll Out the Barrels

Athens-Clarke County Stormwater is looking for local artists who would like to transform ordinary rain barrels into functional pieces of art! These painted barrels will be auctioned off in May as part of Roll Out the Barrels, an annual fundraiser that raises awareness of water pollution and water conservation. Barrels and hardware will be provided for accepted designs, but artists provide their own painting supplies.

If you are interested in submitting a barrel design, please complete the official entry form and design template then submit both forms by mail or in person by Friday, February 9th to the ACC Stormwater Management Program (located at 120 W. Dougherty Street, Athens GA 30601). The event committee will blindly review designs and notify accepted artists later in February.

What is Roll Out the Barrels?

Roll Out the Barrels is an annual event that raises awareness of stormwater runoff, water pollution, and water conservation, all while promoting local artists and supporting environmental education. Local artists turn rain barrels into beautiful pieces of functional art to be auctioned off in support of the Athens Green School Program, an initiative to ensure environmental education is taught in the classroom.

Why Rain Barrels?

Water pollution is a serious problem in Athens-Clarke County and green infrastructure, such as rain barrels and other rain harvesters, are an important component in addressing that problem. Rain barrels are easy to install and can be used to protect water by both reducing stormwater runoff and reducing the need to pull from city water supplies for lawn-care and car washing.

Contact for more information. This event is organized by the Stormwater Management Program and the Water Conservation Office, with support from Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful.
